MIT Portugal is an international MIT Program in partnership with Portuguese Universities and Industry. It was launched in 2006 with the goal to create a vibrant, interactive and collaborative platform in science, technology, entrepreneurship and innovation.

  • Claudia Amorim is a MIT Portugal Program Bioengineering Phd student at the University of Minho currently working on a project to create food that helps to prevent diseases thanks to the use of peels. Her goal is to transform food components that we usually waste such as onionskin, corn kernel or garlic stem, to produce prebiotics that can be incorporated into some types of food.

  • The MIT Portugal Program National Director, spoke on 90 Segundos de Ciência, a Antena 1 Radio Program dedicated to promote Portuguese Research. Pedro Arezes´ interview was focused on a project known as "cockpit of the future" which is being developed by the University of Minho in a partnhership with Bosch Portugal to design and create autonomous cars.

  • Bernardo Marques Amaral Silva won the first edition of the APREN - Associação Portuguesa de Energias Renováveis (Portuguese Association of Renewable Energies) Award. The INESC TEC researcher and MIT Portugal Program SES Phd doctorate presented a pioneering thesis on wind energy specially focused on Wind Farms entitled “Multi-terminal HVDC Grids: Control Strategies for Ancillary Services Provision in Interconnected Transmission Systems with Offshore Wind Farms”.

  • Pedro Arezes is since June the new MIT Portugal Program National Director. In an interview to Segurança Magazine, the Professor makes a clearly positive review of these last months and considers a privilige being part of the Portuguese Program of a renowned University that is constantly recognized by some of the best World rankings, such as the first place for the fifth straight year on the QS World University Rankings.
